Counselling can give us greater insight,
helping us to heal and grow and to live with greater happiness,
choice and freedom.
Hello and welcome to my website.
My name's Richard Askew. I'm an experienced Humanistic-Integrative
Counsellor with a practice in Brighton and Hove. Alongside
my private practice, I work as a trainer and Personal Development
Group facilitator on a Counselling Diploma course and as a family
counsellor with a family therapy project in Brighton and Hove.
We often seek counselling when we're feeling
unable to move forward, frustrated by low self-esteem and self-confidence
or overwhelmed by loneliness, sadness or fear. Sometimes
we feel our lives are somehow out of balance or that the same
old problems keep resurfacing. Depression and anxiety
are often present, and are difficult to get over alone.
My approach to counselling is collaborative, so
we work together, and focuses on three key areas:
how we feel about ourselves, the nature of our relationships
with other people, and our sense of place in the world. The
aim is to help you live with a greater sense of happiness, peace
and security. I work primarily - although not exclusively
- with people living with depression and anxiety and people given
the label 'personality disorder', and I look at the difficulties
my clients are living with as the difficulties of life and living
rather than symptoms of illness.
My professional interests realate to gender identity
and gender equality in counselling relationships, isolation and
the sense of belonging, the feeling of powerlessness, family dynamics
that foster distress, and our sense of place in the social space.
My practice is based across three locations, near
Palmeira Square in Hove (BN3), close to Seven Dials (BN1), and
adjacent to Preston Park train station (BN1) where I offer:
When it's appropriate, I also offer:
I also offer specialist
support for families engaged in Collaborative Process
and British expatriates overseas.
